Character Development Evaluation

I like how both mediums interpret my character designs in different ways. The pen sketches communicate the animals in a more natural way so they are easily recognisable, whilst the acrylic paintings create a softer, more cuddly version of the animals.

After looking at current popular children's books, it seems that the majority of books are colour reproductions (as they obviously attract the eye more), therefore, I am starting to lean towards producing my illustrations in colour using acrylic paint...

'Lost and Found'
Illustrated by Oliver Jeffers

'Say Cheese!' from the Charlie and Lola Series
Illustrated by Lauren Child

'Harris Finds His Feet'
Illustrated by Catherine Rayner

I don't want to rule out my pen drawings completely so I will either encorporate them into the book as smaller page illustrations - much like illustrator Christian Birmingham - or use them for decoration in the corners of the blank pages in the front and the back of the book...

'Wombat Goes Walkabout'
Illustrated by Christian Birmingham
Both colour and monochrome illustrations
are used along side each other.
